Coach Carey - The Way I See It

By Coach Carey

BIO:

A graduate of Central Bucks West High School, Mike Carey captained the team as a senior, a year that saw him win the school’s first Maxwell Award. After graduation, Mike accepted a full scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh where he started three years at center and captained his team as a senior. That year he was named an AP All-American and played in the All-American Bowl. Mike later signed a pro contract with the Oakland Raiders.

Coming back to his alma mater, C.B. West, Mike rejoined his high school coach, Mike Pettine, and together created one of the most impressive high school football programs ever in the country. Carey helped Pettine guide the team to a 45-game win streak and four state championships. In 2000, his one season as head coach, Mike took the win streak to 59 games, a Pa. state record. The Bucks once again advanced to the state title game, losing to Erie Prep in OT.

After a brief rest, Mike joined Dick Beck’s North Penn staff as a defensive coordinator and offensive line coach and helped the Knights win the 2003 Class AAAA state title.

Mike Carey by the numbers: Five state championship wins with 74 wins and 1 loss in his last 75 high school games.

While coaching may still be in his blood, for now he is happy to be a devoted husband to wife Bev and a loving father to his four daughters: Ashley, Brooke, Devon and Jesse.
