Ryan Emmerich – Ursinus College (Football)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Ursinus College, Delaware Valley University, Misericordia University, Widener University, Lycoming College

Reasons for choosing Ursinus: Campus visit, meeting with coaching staff, location and educational value of institution. could picture my future there.

What was the progression that led you to playing football at the collegiate level?  “I always have been athletic and grew up playing baseball, soccer and basketball. When I started playing football in the 7th grade, I knew this was a good fit for my size, strength and conditioning. I also was becoming too aggressive for those sports I grew up playing. I always worked hard to progress to the next level, my junior year was pivotal in the recruiting process.”

Coach Richard Clemens says:  “He’s a great kid. He’s one of those guys who would be a Division 2 somewhere if it wasn’t for COVID, and he could have gotten practice time in. If he was a guy who really cared how high a division he could go, he could have played higher. He just wanted to go somewhere play receiver and play right away.

“He played wide receiver and also D-back for us. Ursinus recruited him as a wide receiver. He’s a tall guy – he’s 6-3, he’s long, he has really good ball skills, and he’s faster than he looks. He’s a smart kid, and he’s really athletic.

“He was one of the team leaders and was one of the better players on the team. Last year, he was second team All-SOL when we were in the bigger school division. He didn’t really play football until eighth grade, so as soon as somebody gets him in and does a lot of drills with him, he’s really going to develop into a good player. If it wasn’t for COVID and we would have had an offseason, I think he would have been a scholarship guy. He’s just a quality guy. I think Ursinus got a real steal.
