Pennridge vs. Souderton

Pennridge was able to remain undefeated at home during their community night, as they met Souderton for the first time since losing to them in overtime in last year's PIAA 4A State Championship. As always, the game between the two local rivals was one that was hardfought, but this time it was the Rams who were able to get the upper hand.

Souderton came out with energy and was able to win balls in the midfield in the early stages of the match, but as the game wore on, they looked more and more like a team coming off back-to-back overtime games. Souderton wasn't able to create a quality scoring chance early on, and Pennridge soon gained footing, as they tried to launch attack after attack against Souderton's strong defense. The Indian's backline and goalkeeping had another strong match, led by keeper Morgan Molyneaux and centerbacks Darby Kramer and Payton Carroll.

The game did not have many clear-cut scoring opportunities. The Rams came closest in the first half with a shot that left the post ringing with just under a minute left to play. Aside from that warning shot the rams seemed to settle for shots from distance, which Molyneaux was more than happy to collect. Souderton's greatest chance came in the second half, as Averie Doughty got in behind for the defense and met Pennridge's keeper with a hard challenge that the keeper was able to hold.

The deadlock finally broke with 12 minutes left to play, as Pennridge was able to work the ball down the wing to send in a cross. Souderton's defense scrambled to block the shot and clear the ball off the line, but the shot found the back of the net to give the hosts the game winner.

Overall a hard-fought game between both teams. Certainly looked a lot like the times the two teams met last year. Both teams know each other very well, a lot of the girls play club together, and there's an always a good energy surrounding the match up. Hopefully the rematch at Souderton will be just as good, but with a different result!
