Caroline Weir scored our lone goal to make it 1-1 at halftime. Council Rock north came out stronger than we did for the second half and took advantage of their opportunities.
Council Rock North Comments
As always it was another tough game in the SOL today . I thought we started the game very well, our possession was good and we created a couple of early opportunities before our first goal. Paige Addis laid off a great pass to Sammy Judge who hit a nice ball from 25 yards out to open the scoring. Immediately Tennent came back at us and scored a really good individual goal to tie it up. Both teams had some opportunities in the rest of the first half, but we felt a little disappointed that we didn’t have the lead at half time.
One of our biggest problems last season was not turning close games into wins, we spoke at half time about having the right mentality and focusing on the tactical adjustments we gave them. The girls responded really well, their mindset and work rate was very good in the second half. Both of our second half goals came from set pieces. Anna Cairone managed to finish a loose ball in the box and Taylor Brennan had a great finish from another free kick.
Overall the game was pretty physical and both teams competed hard. For us, our back 5 were very good today, Grace Needham had 12 saves overall but more importantly she was confident in organizing and communicating during the second half.
All 18 girls contributed today, being aggressive and grinding out a win on the road was another important step for this group. As we get deeper into league play this will definitely serve us well.
