Bensalem Comments
The Bensalem Owls won their home opener 10-4 against Springfield today It looked like the wind was going to wreak some havoc on the game in the first inning Springfield got on board in the first inning when their leadoff hitter hit a flyball to the OF that the wind moved like crazy then the throw in looked like it hit a brick wall and just dropped, and she landed on 3rd base but the damage was limited the damage to only 1 run. Bensalem came back to take the lead in the bottom of the 1st. Kayla Clarkson and Maggie Formichelli both walked and scored on singles from Lina Sponheimer and Adrianna Vargas. Bensalem never looked back after that lead and added 2 more runs in the 2nd, 3rd. 4th and 6thinnings. We did a really good job of getting runners on base, moving them over and scoring them.

Offensively, Lina Sponheimer led the team in hits with 3 including a homerun and 2 singles. Megan Klein had a 2-hit game with a triple and a single and Freshman Adrianna Vargas also had a 2-hit day. In the circle for the owls Senior Maggie Formichelli tossed 4 innings and only allowed 3 hits, its not easy to pitch in cold weather because the spin on the ball isn’t as tight but she looked great. Sophomore Kayla Clarkson came in relief and tossed 3 solid innings.

I must hand it to Springfields leadoff hitter Ashley Schultz, she is a great ball player and hit the ball hard all game. She hit a bomb over the RF fence that landed in the trees and was responsible for scoring 3 of the teams 4 runs. Bensalem doesn’t have much time to revel in this victory as they host Pennsbury on Friday afternoon.
