Council Rock South vs. Bensalem

Bensalem Comments
The owls were able to notch their 12th win of the season today. It’s a little weird we won our two previous games but I don’t think we played really good softball. Today we played really solid.

We were able to jump on the score board in the 1st inning with 2 runs when Megan Klein led off the game with single. Ayva Knowles followed it up with a bunt single. Klein used heads up base-running and took off for 3rd with nobody covering. South botched throw and Klein scored and Knowles landed on 3rd. Maggie Formichelli stepped to the plate an lifted a flyball to center field to score the second run. South was able to get one run back when leadoff batter Kaylie Walters walked and eventually scored on an RBI ground out by Grace Stepp.

Klein led off the 3rd with a walk and Knowles laid down another bunt single. A double steal put both runners in scoring position with 1 out. Klein scored on a passed ball to give the Owls some breathing room.

South looked like it was going to threaten again in the home half of the 3rd. Gabby Bloom lead off the inning reaching on an error after a stolen base and ground out she was on 3rd but Catcher Ashlyn Merz made a diving stop to tag her out at home trying to scored on a passed ball.

That was the momentum shift the Owls needed. They put up 2 runs in the 5th when Clarkson reached on an error and Klein singled. Knowles moved them both into scoring position and Formichelli smacked a 2 run single. And another 4 runs in the 6th when Singles by Kenzie Kramer and Clarkson and a walk. Klein hit a sac fly to score 1, Knowles wore a pitch to load the bases for Formichelli who blooped in a 3 run single.

Defensively we played really well we were able to cut down most of the threats South had. Besides Merz play at home, Klein snagged a line drive and doubled off the runner on 3rd in the 4th. Cam Pickering made a running over the shoulder catch in right field for the 3rd out in the 5th. Lina Sponheimer had 2 amazing scoops and a great on her tippy toes stretch for outs.

Ameerah Wheatley lead South with 2 singles. For the Owls Klein, Knowles and Formichelli each notched 2 hits. Formichelli was responsible to 6 of the teams RBIs.
