–Props: “Jenna Butler had a great solid game in the midfield for our team to keep the ball contained. We were able to keep control and keep the ball above our 25 with help from our defensive unit.”
Up next: Both teams will advance to Monday’s opening round of the District 1 3A Tournament. CB South is 13th in the latest District 1 3A power rankings, and CR South is 23rd.

Pennridge Edges Ridley 1-0 Behind Late Third-Quarter Goal
(Submitted by Pennridge FH)
Playing its third game in as many days, Pennridge traveled to Ridley on Wednesday evening for a hard-fought matchup under the lights. In a defensive battle from the opening whistle, neither team was able to generate much offensive momentum as the contest remained scoreless through the first half.
With penalty corners at a premium, neither side earned a corner opportunity until midway through the third quarter. As time wound down in the period, the Rams finally found the breakthrough they had been searching for.
With just 36 seconds remaining in the third quarter, senior Colbie Landherr carried the ball into the circle from the left side and delivered a pass across the face of goal. Junior Jenna Verespy was waiting on the back post and finished into an open cage, giving Pennridge a 1-0 advantage.
“The lone goal proved to be enough for the Rams, who relied on a strong defensive effort to preserve the lead over the final quarter. Goalkeeper Ella Ricci stopped all six shots she faced to record the shutout victory, while Pennridge held a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners.
“The win improves the Rams to 5-12 overall and 1-9 in the Suburban One League. Pennridge will conclude its season on Thursday afternoon when it hosts Dock Mennonite at 3:30 p.m. in Helman Stadium.
Note from the Coaches:
“In quite possibly the longest last week of the season, this team continues to show its resolve. After two tightly contested games over the previous two days, we were able to break through and earn a hard-fought win on the road tonight. Scoring the game-winning goal with just 36 seconds left in the third quarter is a testament to this group’s persistence and determination.
“We’re proud of the way this team has continued to compete and support one another throughout a challenging stretch. We’re looking forward to one final opportunity to play together and close the season out strong tomorrow at home.”

I told the girls at halftime it was nice to see them having fun on the hockey field again. All six of our seniors were able to score a goal tonight so that was nice also. Hopefully, we can carry tonight’s effort into the postseason next week.”

Central Bucks West coach Lori Ierubino:
“Holding the number 1 team in the country to one goal at half was a pretty good start to this game. Agnes Irwin is a team that is crafted from field hockey players across the state. We battled and never gave up. We needed to capitalize on the opportunities we had, especially on corners if we wanted to win today’s game. That is something we will work on.
“Overall, this was a perfect game against a fast and talented team to expose some of what we need to smooth out before the postseason starts Monday.”
Up next: Central Bucks West, fourth in the latest District 1 3A power rankings, will have an opening round bye.
