SOL non-league crossover
Central Bucks West 1, Pennsbury 0
The crossover section of SOL play is always interesting.
Teams get a chance to clash with opponents they don’t see on a regular basis, which has its advantages and disadvantages, but it’s also a chance to reset a bit after the grind of division play while still getting a good test. That’s where the visiting Bucks and host Falcons were on Monday, both teams not having seen the results
come as frequently as they’d hoped but both still having plenty of talent on the pitch to turn that around.
While there was only one goal scored with West the beneficiary thanks to a no-quit effort and composed take by Addie Hermann, it was an active game both ways. West’s Annabelle Witt was the other hero, coming up clutch between the posts to help her side pick up a needed win.

CB West coach Bree Benedict: “Definitely a tough road battle. Credit to Pennsbury, they were a solid group that found some good through balls that challenged our back line, and their keeper had a really nice 
game. For us, Annabelle Witt came up huge in goal with five or six really strong saves late, including multiple 1v1s and a point-blank save with about a minute left to preserve the lead.”
Hermann hustle: “Our goal came in the first half from a full hustle play by Addie Hermann. She picked the ball off a midfielder, beat a defender, went 1v1 with the keeper, calmly took it around her and passed it into the far post.”
Takeaways: “Alyssa Terry had a strong game on the ball, and I thought in moments when we were able to connect to feet and play facing forward, we created some really positive possession. All in all, it was an important out-of-conference win for us and a good road result against a tough Pennsbury team.”

Central Bucks East 5, Neshaminy 1
CB East and Neshaminy have been two of the SOL’s most consistent teams the last half-decade.
Both squads are routinely in the mix in their respective division title races, they’re often battling for a high playoff seed and tend to play into late October, if not later. Early on Monday, it looked like they’d be in for a battle with both teams exchanging goals before six minutes expired.
Then Taylor Roumy picked up where she left off last week, netting the go-ahead goal a few minutes later, and the Patriots turned things up in the second half with Roumy assisting two more goals to help East run its winning streak to 10 straight.
Senior Kiera Sleicher had a goal to open the scoring and added a second half assist as CB East tagged a helper on all five of its goals while the defense locked up – the unit has allowed just five goals all season.

CB East coach Jake Nesteruk: “Proud of our kids for the effort they put into this one and for seeing five different kids pick up a goal in this one. Despite the early goal from Kiera, I think in the first half we had to shake off a bit of rust from a couple days off and credit to Neshaminy for putting us into some uncomfortable spots early.”
Ramping up: “Second half, I thought we raised the standard a bit and as a result, did a better job of controlling the match and creating a few higher quality opportunities. I thought Ava Mignon had a really good day in the center of the park, and I’m proud of how our backline and others in the midfield responded after getting caught in transition a couple of times early in this one. Delaney Ralph continues to come in and give us really high-level minutes when we need more stability.”

Council Rock South 4, Central Bucks South 1
A blistering start by the Golden Hawks lifted them to a home win to kick off crossover play.
The Lylah Day-Riley O’Halloran combo was dialed in off the opening tap, O’Halloran setting up two Day goals inside the first five minutes of action. CR South ran its advantage to three goals in the opening 10 minutes with a well-executed set piece before capping a strong opening 20 minutes with a fourth goal.
To the visiting Titans’ credit, they came back strong in the second half, breaking a long scoreless streak held by the Golden Hawks’ defense when Kate Walsh scored, using a Khloe Montini assist.

CR South coach Nick Heim: “We knew coming in they have quite a bit of talent on that roster and some experience considering they made it to the state finals last year. Before the game, we stressed that with no practice session yesterday we had to answer the first whistle and set the tone. I was really pleased with how our group answered that challenge.”
Fast start on offense: “In the second minute, Riley O’Halloran played a great ball splitting the backs for Lylah Day to run onto and touch home. A minute later, the same combination connected again and got us off to a great start 2-0. In the eighth minute, Krissy Philip took a beautiful Kait Hickey set piece in stride and put a header into the side netting. We continued to connect, and in the 20th minute, Lorelei Hanratty headed a back post corner across the box that Claire Vizza half-volleyed into the top of the goal to extend the lead 4-0.”
Second half: “At half we stressed that CB South would come out strong and to match their energy. To their credit, I thought they picked up their intensity and physicality a bit. They connect well, so we couldn’t let the score make us slack off at all. It was a pretty even second half with chances for both teams. A little under halfway to go, CB South got on the end of a ball to poke one home to make it 4-1. Until that time, we had gone over 700 game minutes without conceding a goal, so it was a bit of a wake-up call for our group that we need to see games out to the end.”
Props: “Maddie Hyams and Anna Renshall combined for the win in goal. I thought Anna Horn was great in the midfield for us with distribution and drawing fouls, while Brooke Pavlow and Ruby Bross helped create chances going into the final third for us.”
Takeaway: “Overall, a good performance against a quality team from a really quality conference. We were able to use our depth pretty nicely throughout the game which was a positive. We’re back at it Wednesday in another crossover against Abington.”

Lower Moreland 1, Upper Dublin 0
Shannon Mahon has scored a lot of big goals in her time at Lower Moreland, and Monday was just another one.
Just minutes remained in what was a scoreless clash between the SOL Liberty and SOL Freedom leaders though that was no fault of the LM senior striker, who’d been buzzing the UD goal all match. With naught to show for it, Mahon could have packed it up and been happy to pull points against a Cardinals team on a roll, but she kept working for that last chance.
With less than two minutes remaining, Mahon broke through to put one away and give the Lions a huge win.
The win snaps a six-game winning run for Upper Dublin, with Lower Moreland’s defense holding the Cardinals scoreless for the first time since Sept. 4.

Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill: “It was a great win for our girls today against a talented UD squad. We knew coming in that UD has been on a roll as of late. We also felt like we could compete with them if we played to our potential. And that is what we did.”
Bench provides a boost: “In the first 20 minutes of the game, we were outmatched, chasing UD around the field. They have some really good athletes. However, around that time sophomore wing Luka Fellah and freshman midfielder/attacker Charlie Carroll entered the game and gave us a much-needed spark of energy and technical soccer. It seemed at that point that we were able to settle in and compete with UD in the back and forth of the remainder of the game.”
Lions lean on defense: “I have to give a big shout out to defenders sophomore Evie O’Brien, senior Izzy O’Brien and freshman Ava DeMarco for playing such a smart, scrappy full game. They absorbed UD’s attack over and over again and figured out what had to happen to keep the ball out of the net. Also, senior midfielders Agnes Kroll and Jordyn Fox were so solid for us throughout the game.”
Senior saves: “If I was giving two game balls today: one would go to senior goalkeeper Mariah Gazzara who simply did not allow Upper Dublin to score a goal today. Mariah is so quick and just seemed to be where she needed to be every time. We would not have won today’s game without her.”
Mahon in the moment: “The second game ball would go to senior attacker Shannon Mahon. Shannon kept asking more and more questions of UD’s defense, she simply outworked everyone. She was relentless. And just when we wondered if her work would actually pay off on the score sheet, with two minutes left in the game, she received a nice ball from sophomore wing Gabbie Sellecchia that Shannon attacked and then finessed to the far post and into the back of the net.”

The Knights were able to get ample playing time for some of their reserves on Monday and they used the opportunity to produce.
Bailee Charles had a brace to lead the North Penn offense, which also got a highlight when Corinne Ireland headed in a corner kick from Monita Rijal for a well-struck set piece goal.

North Penn coach Mike Rio: “A good, focused effort by our girls today and was proud of the way that all the girls played. Special shout out to Corinne and Monita who connected on our first header and corner kick goal of the season.”
Repping it: “I felt like some of the girls that got some extra time today really made the most of their opportunities and just played hard and did a lot of things really well. With seven games left we are just really stressing to keep building on the good habits and doing things right from warmups to the final whistle and I thought the girls did that today.”
Harry S Truman coach Brian Gilbert: “We were down a few key players today, but we have a good balance of upperclassmen and freshmen stepping up. Defensively, seniors Julianna Aviles and Julianna Romer drew the start, playing left mid and left fullback respectively, and senior Lila Giunta continues to add a defensive element to her game. We had some scoring chances, however Senior Skyla Leiva recorded our only shot on goal. North Penn rosters 16 seniors. Truman has not had 16 seniors combined in the past two seasons. We are a young team and at one point, we played 10 minutes with seven freshmen and a first-year varsity sophomore on the field: Vivienne Pauley, Amirah Fisher, Brennan Gilbert, Jaedyn Olds, Lily Hadfield, Madison Egan, Payton Morris, and Isabella Meyer. Not only did they yield no goals, but they generated a few offensive chances. In the closing seconds of the game, Pauley redirected a ball to Fisher who had a step on the last defender for an apparent breakaway, but the buzzer sounded, abruptly ending the scoring chance. Down 6-0 and the Tiger girls were still pressing that hard. That is the type of effort our coaches are proud of.”
Props to the Knights: “North Penn is one of those teams if you’re not talking about them, maybe you should be. I talked with coach Mike prior to the game, and they are in a tough conference – playing the Central Bucks teams six times a year is a tough road, but they are battle-tested. They play with grit and physicality. This is a team that I’m rooting for to advance in the playoffs.”
Tigers Props: “My standout player of the match was freshman Payton Morris. If you asked me what position Morris plays, I’d say ‘wherever we need her.’ She played striker, but then dropped back to play outside fullback. She later played center mid and stopper. Perhaps the most important position on the field is center fullback. We have had the luxury to utilize our three junior co-captains rotating at the sweeper position. Unfortunately, Marston was out with an injury and late in the first half, Bella Romer and Natalie Klimowicz both needed a breather. We turned to freshman Morris to shift over to center fullback, with sophomore Harley Palencik at the stopper position. The result? We finished the half without allowing another goal. The record and the scoreboard may not always reflect it, but there’s a lot of good things these girls are doing and they continue to progress.”

The Panthers came out firing and put together a big first half in Monday’s crossover win.
Quakertown had a 3-0 lead before 15 minutes had gone off the board, junior Mya James leading the charge with a goal and assist. From there, it was the team’s underclassmen picking up the flag with freshman Emily Mallory recording a brace before halftime and freshman Sadie Wilkin – who assisted Mallory’s second – converting a corner from senior Olivia Heimark to cap the scoring.

Quakertown coach Jon Gingrich: “The entire team came out to play today. Our defense was strong and didn’t allow many shots on net. Our offense was on the attack all game, and the ladies’ high energy kept us going throughout the game.”
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto: “We couldn’t find our rhythm in the first half. In the second half, we were able to create some opportunities but couldn’t capitalize on them. We’ll continue to learn from each match and take those lessons into the next one. Strong play today from Keiley Hawk and Julie Albert.”

Plymouth Whitemarsh 2, William Tennent 1
The Colonials knew they’d have their hands full on Monday and then had the start they could ill afford.
William Tennent took an early 1-0 lead off the foot of Grace Bochnak, prompting PW to see if it could mount a response. The answer on Monday was an emphatic yes, sparked by a reserve player stepping into a critical role and setting up the equalizer before the captains came in clutch yet again to provide a winning goal.
After getting off on the wrong foot, the Colonials’ defense responded as well, keeping a potent Tennent front line scoreless for well over an hour of game time.

Plymouth Whitemarsh coach TJ DeLucia: “Doing this as long as I have in soccer and basketball, it’s hard to surprise me much anymore or get me excited, but this was one of the more enjoyable wins that I’ve had in a while. Tennent’s attack is very dangerous. They’ve been scoring a lot of goals, and Coach Slack and I were very worried as we were watching them on film this weekend. We told the team before the game that this would be a playoff-level test. We put a plan in place, but it would require a ton of focus, intensity, and discipline.”
Slow start: “We had a really poor, low energy pre-game warm-up today. Our first ten minutes were not positive. We went down 1-0 early. We made some changes midway through the first half and finished relatively strong. We started the second half with a lot of new players and inexperience so to hold them scoreless for the final 70+ minutes of the game and to score two goals late shows a lot of character from our group.”
Spark at the six: “Sophomore Emma Meyer, who has had inconsistent minutes throughout the season, had to step in and play the ‘6’ for us – which she has never played at the Varsity level. With 13 minutes to go, she plays a through ball into sophomore Lori Flannery who takes on her defender, creates some space, and hits an incredible ball far post from about 20 yards out.”
Captains connect: “Three minutes later, we earn a couple corner kicks. Senior Captain Liv Patete was on corner duty in the second half for the first time all season. On the first, she played a great ball in and we don’t get on the end of it. Win another corner right away, and this time sophomore captain Molly McEvoy gets her head on it and finishes far post for her third goal of the season.”
Defenders stand strong: “Our backline today of sophomore Viv Prince, junior Sarai Salmons, senior Liv Patete, and sophomore JJ Lafferty – along with freshman keeper Jules Rex – did an incredible job to hold Tennent scoreless in the second half.”
Props: “JJ Lafferty is taking massive steps with her leadership. She is a kid who, while starting 20 games, didn’t talk much at all last year and today – she was communicating throughout the game. She had a lot of inexperience around her and she had to take command and she did. I’m very proud of her.”
William Tennent coach Elise Jara: “We moved the ball well and were able to grab the lead as Grace had a nice shot that went off the crossbar, and she scored off the rebound. Our defense kept PW scoreless in the first half, but we knew that sitting on one goal would not get the win. We just couldn’t find the back of the net for that all important second goal. We are doing good things as a team just need to find that finishing touch.”

Pennridge 1, Council Rock North 0
G Howley got chippy, and it was just what Pennridge needed.
Locked in a scoreless duel with a talented Council Rock North team on the road, the Pennridge senior found some room on the right wing early in the second half. The Christopher Newport recruit went for it, chipping a high-lofting ball over the keeper and to the far side of the net for the breakthrough.
From there it was her future college teammate Peyton Rabinowitz and Harper Posey holding the line in front of senior goalkeeper Liv Buckman doing the work to keep a potent CR North attack in check.

Pennridge coach Lucas Kriner: “Nice to open crossovers with a win against CRN. Happy for G finding a goal at a really important moment in the opening stages of the second half. Peyton Rabinowitz and Harper Posey did a great job at center back. It’s not an easy job playing with a 1-0 lead with 30-plus minutes remaining. They helped control two really important chunks of 10 minutes in the game: the 10 immediately after we scored and the final 10 minutes of the game. Our game management looked really good in those two stretches.”
Sure-handed Ram: “Liv Buckman was really sharp at securing balls and reading how the opponent was trying to get in behind. Her reactions off her line were the best of the season so far. You cannot get 1-0 wins without a goalkeeper who’s locked in on those details. It’s not spectacular saves, but the composure to act decisively and just cleanly scoop up a ball. Bucky contributed sure hands and timely collections in the box that helped us see this one out.”

A strong second half effort from Lexi Cohen propelled the Hatters to a home win under the lights.
After a scoreless first half, Cohen made a marauding run down the touchline and set up Courtney Rinius for the opening goal before putting one on her foot to add the insurance. That was all the offense freshman Alana Brandt needed, the first-year keeper making the most of her first start by picking up the shutout win.

Hatboro-Horsham coach Nick Bellizzie: Hatboro-Horsham put together a strong performance on both sides of the ball tonight, earning a well-deserved team win. The Hatters created numerous scoring opportunities in the first half but couldn’t find the back of the net. That changed in the second half when Lexi Cohen made a great run down the sideline, beat a defender, and played a pass to Courtney Rinius, who finished for the opening goal. Just minutes later, Payton Skutches sent a long ball forward to Cohen. Lexi controlled it beautifully and calmly finished to give the Hatters a 2-0 lead.”
Props: “The defense was outstanding all night, allowing just four shots on goal. Abby Marino, Gabby Colletto, Mariella Beniquiz, and Daniella Frank put together a tremendous defensive effort and helped freshman goalkeeper Alana Brandt earn her first varsity win and shutout. This team continues to work hard, improve, and grow with every game. Tonight was a complete team effort from start to finish and a great example of the progress this group continues to make.”

Credit to Bensalem, who played a physical game and competed with high intensity from start to finish. For us, it was a complete team effort and a great step forward for the group as we look ahead to our next match.”
